Bydgoszcz tram and rolling stock company, Pojazdy Szynowe PESA Bydgoszcz S.A (PESA) has come up with the lowest bid in the tender to renew the Warsaw tram fleet. PESA is offering to build 186 low-floor trams for just under 1,5 billion zloty, some 300 million zloty less than the Warsaw Municipal Transport Company’s own estimates. The next lowest bid at 1.9 billion zloty came from Ansaldo Breda & Newag, a Polish-Italian consortium. However, the AB&N bid will propably be disqualified by the tender commission because the offer was priced in Euro, and not – as the tender documentation specified – in zloty. The Alstom Konstal works based in Chorzowa offered to build the trams for 2.860 billion zloty, and Swiss – German Stadler for 3.730 billion zloty.

The design offered by PESA is based on their 120N prototypes already running in Warsaw, but with the seating arranged as 1+1 rather than the 120N’s 1+2. The 5 section articulated tram is 30.5 metres long, some 1.5 metres shorter than the 120Ns. The front end is different too – a blunt design, similar to the Lodz Citirunners, rather than the sexy front end employed on the 120Ns.
